Jonathan Edwards Winery---for real

last night I posted some shots while I was half unconscious and sleepy---here are some more 'real ' ones. I'd comment---but you know, I hope they speak for themselves: I had a great time, everybody was cool, the weather and light were unbelievable, it was my favorite caterer (why 'favorite? They feed me, they're really cool and the food is always excellent---that's why!!!) and I was one happy camper---so there you go!
(and yes, Carla---I 'heart' the D3'!!!)

a little light-painting

Here's another example of a 'before & after' thanks to Photoshop. I knew a sI shot this that it would need some work, the light was getting a little dead looking as the sun had retreated behind some clouds. The final version is a combo of 2 layers of the same image, one darker than the other for the sky exposure. There is a fair amount of layer masking going on as well as some burning , dodging and color adjustments. (always try to do your burning and dodging on separate layer masks as you then have the ability to go back and correct any errors you may have made!!) I love the slightly otherworldly soft glow it takes on as it was all in cloudy light.

...not really, but it sure looked like they could after I saw this shot. Thanks to Miss Alison for the late-nite tip!

Jonathan Edwards Winery

...yeah sure, it's 12:30 am...but i'm so stoked about the shots from todays wedding at the Jonathan Edwards Winery, I just had to quickly post a couple! More to come....

Corrinn and Davids wedding at Longshore

I love this photo as it almost looks Photoshopped together - but I assure you it is not. How often do people align themselves in a manner this cool, with everyones attention every which way?

trying out the Lifepixel Infrared conversion

I wanted to post a few shots from last weeks wedding at Longshore in Westport. The weather was iffy and starting drizzling RIGHT as she came down the aisle, but ended up stopping and being really quite beautiful for photos! They were another fun easygoing couple (i've been really lucky this year!!) and were open to my ideas and letting me experiment a bit.

It was as windy as the devil but everyone were good sports about being blown to pieces!

tarot on a yacht

I was shooting the Brunswick School prom last night on a World Yacht around Manhattan, and they had a magician, handwriting analysis, photo booth, ME, caricaturist, and tarot card reader who gave me a once over before things started. She told me that I was neat & a bit anal retentive - no surprise. I liked things to be in their place. But most interesting was that she said ,"You're doing well and can continue this way, but need to do more stuff for yourself. More shooting because you want to---reportage. Otherwise you'll never reach your full potential." I said, "I try to take a trip a year to do that."

"That's not enough." she said not missing a beat. I thought that was an interesting observation that really made me think. It's one of those thing that i KNOW deep down but am not certain what to do to remedy.

Aside from that  - here are 3 portraits I loved from the evening. These guys are great---always polite and respectful. Today at graduation I kept hearing them cry out "HEY NORM!!!" when they'd spot me!

Thats all i have to say - Not a great photo, but you get the idea. I am SO excited. (and apparently so easily pleased too!)
